High Definition Printing
Taking Quality To A New Level
A lot has been said about High Definition printing (also known as HD printing), but if you're struggling to get your head around it, try watching a VHS and DVD copy of the same movie. Notice the difference? Well much like DVD, High Definition printing offers a far sharper image with greater clarity.
Whether it's a postcard, presentation folder or large banner, lots of offset printing jobs use sheet-fed machines with plates containing the images that need to be printed. The quality of these images depends on two main factors:
- DPI: This is a measure of the resolution of a printer. It refers to the dots of ink or toner used by an image-setter, laser printer, or other printing device to print your text and graphics. In general, the more dots per square inch (DPI), the better and sharper the image.
- LPI: A printer also uses a half-tone grid which is divided into cells containing half-tone spots. How close together these cells are in the grid is measured in lines per inch (LPI). Having a lower LPI makes the dots in the printed image much more obvious.
