New Era for Print

A $1.5m printing centre billed as the largest of its type in Queensland opened in Murarrie last week.

Queensland's appetite for personalised marketing and sales products is said to be behind the investment by Worldwide Online Printing.

Worldwide's sales and marketing director Paul Sowerby said the centre would supply 21 printing franchises in Queensland. He said Murarrie was chosen as the company's first digital printing centre because of its central location in a growing market.

Mr Sowerby said the Queensland community was also leading the community in the uptake of personalised marketing and sales products.

"Digital is like an express train on tracks and good on Brisbane for jumping on it so fast," he said.

Mr Sowerby said digital printing meant a print run could be as small as one sheet of paper, instead of the thousands needed for a traditional press. It also meant names of individual householders could be printed on a mass mail-out, he said.

Mr Sowerby expected the new centre at Alexandra Place to employ about 20 people. The centre will run 24 hours a day, six days a week, and can produce more than 32,000 black-and-white and 7000 colour sheets an hour.
