A Quick Guide To Creating And Checking Artwork For Printing.

The little snippets in this guide will not teach you how to be a good designer or how do be an efficient Mac operator. What they will do is highlight the fact that 85% of all reprints are due to artwork errors. Points to remember - Unlike most printers and pre-press houses Worldwide Online Printing offers a remote printing hub catering for over 80 stores nationwide on a daily basis. Therefore to cope with over 400 jobs a day a semi automated process has to be utilised.

Most jobs are ganged up on large sheets with an automated Imposition program. These Imposed sheets are then Ripped and a colour plotter proof is output. This proof is purely as a quick check for Imposition and Backing Up. The factory does not check each individual image/job for content or spelling. The supplied PDF artwork must be supplied right by the Worldwide Print & Design Centre first time.

However, the printing centres won't disregard problems if they are spotted. If they do spot a problem we will first contact the design centre to see if they can quickly supply new files. On some occasions we may be able to alter the PDF file as long as the design centre is happy for them to do so, and agree to the amendment in writing.

The production centres' Pre-Press department runs 24hrs a day 6 days a week, so often if a operator has a question or a query in the middle of the night he/she is likely to pull that job from a run rather than risking printing an incorrect file. While the printing centres do try and make sure this doesn't happen, it highlights the importance of correct artwork and clear purchase order instructions.
