Worldwide's Green Forest

I Switched to Worldwide Green and Planted a native Tree ... so where is it?

Your tree is now growing happily in the 'Worldwide Forest' at Mason's Landing, part of the Canning River Regional Park in Cannington, Western Australia.

If you haven't already, just switch to Worldwide Green products and we'll plant a tree for you too - up to 10,000 of them!

About Mason's Landing - from logging to planting

Mason's Landing on the Canning River in Western Australia is a historical site that is being restored and revegetated with local native species.

Mason's Landing, ironically, was actually part of the old logging

industry in Western Australia in the 1800s. Jarrah felled in the nearby Darling Ranges was brought down via railway to the landing, the furthest point barges could travel up the Canning River. From Mason's Landing, the Jarrah logs travelled on the barges to the port town of Fremantle on the WA coast.

The area is named after Benjamin Mason, the man who built the train line to bring down the logs and a timber mill in the Darling range. Mason's Landing was a hub of local industry in the mid to late 1800's, with blacksmithing, wheel-wrighting and building taking place.

As well as now being part of the Canning River Regional Park, Mason's Landing is also a picnic and recreational area.

What your 'Worldwide Forest' will do

We have high hopes that our 'Worldwide forest' will increase biodiversity in and around Mason's Landing by providing a stable habitat for native flora and fauna.

97 species of birds, five species of large reptile, many types of frogs and native fish, and several species of mammals and marsupials (including bandicoots) live in the Canning River Regional Park.

The Two Rivers Catchment Group Inc. and Department of Environment and Conservation (formerly CALM) began restoring the riverbank vegetation at the site in 2003 and have undertaken a planting program each winter up to 2007. Part of the works to date have also been funded by the Swan River Trust's Riverbank program.

In 2008, no planting was scheduled - until Worldwide Online Printing asked if they could put your forest there.

To get things 'growing', 500 native trees were planted by Worldwide staff members at Mason's Landing on Planet Ark's National Tree Day on July 27, 2008 - and we can't wait to plant more.
