Worldwide doubles capacity, opens QLD digital hub

Worldwide Online Printing is out to prove that big is beautiful by opening a huge new facility which will supply businesses across New South Wales with printing.

NSW Senator Marise Payne was the guest of honour at Worldwide Online Printing's celebration for the opening of the state-of-the-art printing facility in Alexandria.

Worldwide said the new facility doubles the original capacity of an older facility and will supply 19 print and design centres statewide, and their 4,000 customers, with high-quality print at a reduced turnaround time and cost. It is a move that takes Worldwide's investment in print technology and facilities to $4.5million this year.

The flagship of Worldwide's new Alexandria facility is the new Ryobi 925 A1/5 multi-colour offset press.

Worldwide Online is also capitalising on the digital printing phenomenon, with the launch of a $15 million digital only Queensland production facility at Alexandra Place, Murrarie.

Running advanced Xerox and Océ digital machines 24 hours a day, six days a week, the new hub can produyce more than 32,000 black-and-white and 7,000 colour sheets per hour - a potential 30 million sheets per year.

A centrepiece of the hub's technology and equipment line-up is the Xerox Nuvera 144 black-and-white printer. It's new 'green' EA toner is environmentally friendly, can print on both gloss and coated stocks at high speed, and can also handle oversized A3 stock with full bleed, a rarity in large-format digital. For colour work, the hub runs two Xerox machines: the Xerox 6060 and the 2060Plus.

New finishing equipment means the hub can wire-bind 600 books per hour and also offer high speed folding, drilling, saddle-stitching and laminating. Star finishing devices include a Delta Digital Celloglaze (Komfi) and a RENZ Mobi 500 Automatic Wire.

Fuelling the speed and verstality of the new hub's production capability is XM Pie uDirect Variable Data Printing personalisation software. It allows designers using Adobe InDesign CS2or CS3 personalise every sheet of each print run.

To mark the opening of the hub, Worldwide is producing 1,000 free personalised copies of its new business guide, 27 Steps to Unlock the Power of Digital Printing, available from here.
