Minimal vintage features the pared down design elements of the minimalist design movement and pairs it with vintage elements in the colour palette and type style that hark back to the “good old days” when things were built to last and people were motivated by passion and hard work.

Nostalgia (90's/00's)

Nostalgia has always been a powerful motivator and a great way to connect with your audience. Right now the “retro” style is the 90’s/early 2000’s era and there’s a heavy throwback vibe to that era in a lot of designs; think bubblegum colours, different textures, and lots and lots of geometric shapes. These kind of vibrant designs are going to be featuring heavily in designs in 2023, and will be really effective not only to a younger audience who see it as “retro-cool” but to an older audience who will respond to the nostalgia element.

Creative Typography

Typography has always been one of the most important elements in effective design and this coming year we’ll see a lot of dynamic typography that changes the way we think about text; with quirky and expressive fonts that loop, knot and dissolve. Creative typography that forces the viewer to take a deeper look will be playing a leading role in designs throughout 2023.

AI Design

OpenAI’s DALL-E 2 took the world by storm in 2022 and the artificial intelligence powered image generator has had a big impact on the design world – which we’ll see really finding its feet in 2023. Both Microsoft and Notion have incorporated the technology into their own design tools, so it’s only going to become more and more ingrained in the design world – which is a fascinating prospect.
